"A Waffle is like a Pancake with a syrup trap" – Mitch Hedberg

Are you saying that the Rain is like Vampires?

Met up with the girls (Chris, Ming, Hui and Feli) for a wonderful sashimi-intensive dinner.

Guess what! Besides the sashimi being much to rave about (Especially the sword fish which was crunchy and 10/10 drool worthy) I learnt of a new superstition.

Onion + Garlic + Chili = NO RAIN

Yes, this fantastic formula is what outdoor event companies and sales people swear by. Planted in that order, with onion closest to the ground and before they open for business, this little kebab has been proven time and again to ward off rain – the bane of outdoor events. Or so they say.

I’m a little tickled by the idea that simple household condiments can make or break an event. Also am impressed that the garlic can ward off rain as much as vampires. Very much value for money, especially in this economic climate if you think about it. With it stuck to the ground, which spirit is this offering for? And I wonder, how many sticks of these, if any, did they use for NDP? How many will they use for Grand Prix? And if you stick it the other way around, will it rain?

Myths and superstitions that are deeply planted in our social fabric and supposedly ‘proved’ to be true are sometimes too hard to ignore. More often than not, you really do not want to take the chance. If it doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg, why not? I should give this a shot at my next outdoor event – Asia on The Edge.

Now I just need to figure out the proximity covered by each stick. Is just one enough? Or do I need to put up like… 10 sticks a night just to cover the whole waterway?
