Strictly Pancakes
Located at a cosy traditional shophouse off Princep St, Strictly Pancakes comes across as a rough cut jewel along the fringe of the busy town shopping belt. The two storey shophouse has a sofa seating area upstairs and really cosy ambience. It’ll be wonderful, cosying up on one of the couches under the see-through ceiling and sipping a hot cuppa.
Food-wise, their pancakes are REALLY good, but the overall dish needs to be better put together, the elements more balanced. Super fluffy yet moist, its perhaps the nicest pancakes I’ve had in a long time, Wild Honey included. We tried two dishes, one from the savoury menu – Beef Me Up, and another from the sweet – Lemon Curd for the Nerd.
The thick pancakes on this dish sandwiches a juicy thick beef patty and delicious sauteed mushrooms. The dressing on the Argula salad is a tad too much, too salty for me though. Overall, its quite appetizing a dish.
Their dessert pancake did not fare as well though. Lemon Curd for the Nerds, as its name tells, compliments a stack of 3 chocolate pancakes spread with lemon custard and finished with vanilla ice-cream. The pancakes were really yummy moist but the lemon could be a bit more sour and acidic to balance off the starch.
I love the quaint little shop, its pancakes were nice but not exactly memorable. Yet I look forward to another visit again, catching up with some of my dessert-loving girls just because I love cosy outlets.
