Lets

Lets splash in puddles. Lets take turns flying a kite. Lets send snail mail to each other. Lets share an ice-cream cone on a park bench. Lets stifle our laughter as we talk for hours on the phone late into the night. Lets take a stroll along the river and wave at all the tourist boats that pass us by. Lets make funny faces to each other in the library through the bookshelves. Lets explore new places and shoot loads of photos. Lets share secret smiles, knowing glances. Lets blow bubbles. Tonnes of ‘em.

Lets do all we used to do. And perhaps abit more.

My Long Distance Friday

Friday is about distance.

For the employed, its about celebrating the approaching weekend and giving oneself a pat on the shoulder for having survived or endured the stretch of Mon to Fri (depends on how you choose to look at it.) Because I am in between jobs, this Friday has became extra special, filled with friends, reads and a long walk with my trusty Gregory (Canon G11) and new addition to the family, Fred (FED2).

For the longest time, I’ve been wanting to have breakfast at Kith Cafe, along Robertson Walk and I finally did with Su. A quick, no frills breakfast at the tiny cafe that felt friendly and welcoming. Its also pet friendly too!

A quick breakfast and we parted ways. Su to work and me to bring Fred for a spin around city hall. I managed two rolls of film after a 3 hr plus walk (Color + Black & White) before the scorching heat drove me to seek shelter at National Library where I picked up the book “Haruki Murakami and the Music of Words” by Jay Rubin.

Happy, with book in hand, I dropped by Tokyo Deli Cafe at Raffles City. I was very much attracted to the cafe because of its decor. Sleek, cosy modern. But alas, the food was not the least bit impressive. Food aside, its a nice place to hang out, read or catch up with friends over a cuppa.

After lunch, I visited De at her new office space at Suntec Tower Two, The Nomad Offices. She rented a small office space from Nomad which provides fully furnished small office cubicles/spaces for rent. What an idea!

The finale of the day was a company dinner with N with his colleague that came over from USA on a short trip. I’m not a fan of seafood really so I have not much comments on the dinner at Esplanade’s No Signboard Seafood Restaurant. But the sunset along Singapore River at Esplanade was gorgeous and Gregory got a few shots of it.

This long distance Friday of mine meant lots of walking and catching up with fond friends. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Moving On, Not Running Away

Contrary to popular believe, or at least that of someone in particular, I am leaving my job and moving on, like its part and parcel of my career’s natural progression and not simply because I am running away from what some would term “a shitty job”. Everyone grouses about work, the curve balls Murphy throws at them. But those are just short termed grouses and nothing substantial. My journey, in summary, had been an amazing one where there were silver linings everywhere, and the team has been open and easy to work with.

There’s a big difference. If I am intentionally running away and avoiding, I would intently seek out new job offers, send out a thousand and one resumes. However, the fact is that I did not. I am lucky that the opportunity fell on me. As much as I would have continued in my current endeavours, I have instead choose to cut my teeth in the real world. A bigger world. Perhaps. There’s really no need to get bitter about it. I had hoped that in my 4 years here, we would have been friends and not just having a work partnership to speak of. I hope she’ll wish me well. I’m not abandoning ship. Its also a really difficult and heartbreaking decision I had to make.

My lovely colleagues and people I had the privilege of interacting an sharing the same office space grew me into a wiser and better person. I treasure and will keep in touch.
