I remember years ago when I slept with a torch light beside my pillow and the textbook beside my head, studying throughout the night, in-between dreams and moments of sleep. I spent those moments memorizing each character’s stroke and pronounciation, every individual idiom, its meaning and application.

I remember also, the tears shed when try as I might, I always inevitably end up with a C6 for my school tests. I also recall, the month before the ‘O’s when I studied so hard, I almost converted the 8 Chinese vocab guides two idiom compilations into photographic memory.

It has never been easy for me to study the Chinese language. I don’t have the flair for it.

I remember the sense of accomplishment when I finally achieved my As for my ‘O’ Levels.

I have my grouses and misgivings with our Chinese education system. Yet, once in a while, I look back and I feel thankful that I did what I did. The hard work developed my character, the language made me effectively bilingual.

I am thankful that now, I am able to appreciate the elegance of the Chinese language. I’m grateful to my Mom for sharing and for reminding me, the beauty of the language.

Its a Wrap!

I like how you put two leaves together, roll them up into a cone, put in the glutinous rice and other ingredients (meat, shrimps, chestnut, mushroom) and everything seems to come together perfectly in a nice little bundle.

Its been a year since Waffle Jungle started, judging that the first few posts was during dumpling wrapping duty a year ago.

I’m not a fan of eating dumplings, but I do love wrapping them. Plus that after the whole session, the hands will smell faintly of the leaves used for the wrapping. Its such a comforting smell really.

Addicted to Long Walks

I’m an addict.

Addicted to long walks where I get to bring one or many of my cameras for some action.

This weekend, I went down to visit some friends at Asiasoft Gamefest 2010 at iluma, Bugis. Afterwhich, the walk started from there and ended at Liang Court for a quick dinner, shopping  session at Kinokuniya before heading back to City Hall and commuting home. I’ve no idea how many kilometers I’ve covered. But I do know that the long walks feel good.

Oh! And the quick stopover at Ruby Photo (The Peninsula Hotel Shopping Complex) has replenished my films! *happy* I got a Kodak Gold 100 and Kodak Elite Chrome Slide film! Can’t wait to make slides!
